Fifty Shades of ??? Sort of a review ??
Introduction:
I know what most of people may think… “OMG! Yes, YES Finally another person join us! Greek God Fan club # 1” While others may think… “Seriously? Are you out of your mind! How can you read that piece of shit!!” and so on and on, with all the moral shit people have been discussing for a while.
I must say this was an interesting experience, that I wanted to try. Why? I think it was the fact that I find myself talking also bullshit about something that… well… I didn’t even have read. And that make me stop and think … “How can I talk about a book that I haven’t read about ? How can I let people influence me about something, I haven’t been try?”
Never judge a book by its cover … you can be either be surprise or disappointed. It took me two entire weeks to be able to finish the whole trilogy of one of the most criticize books : Fifty shade of Grey by E.L.James.
So curiosity kills the cat! Lets cut the cake !
Written style :
My journey begging reading this book… and my first disappointment was the format as how was written first person view …which it leave you with a lack of many many details. Also it’s format reminds me of an actual fan fiction. But then I remember this was written as a Twilight fanfic. So immediately I was able to recognize which one was each character.
While I read it, I try to take away from my mind that this was in the past an actual Twilight fanfic and keep on going and ignoring ALL the similar things that scream “TWILIGHT!!” I was expecting at any time someone in the book say they where a fucking vampire, didn’t happen.
Whenever I read a book I expect this one to teach me new words and make me go from time to time to a dictionary to check what is the meaning of some words and also educate me grammatical speaking, for my surprise this book is easy to read nothing complicated.
At all moment at least the first book I just feel like I was actually seating in front of my laptop reading an actual fan fiction, everything was predictable at some point even the lemons part (erotic parts). There where saying so much and at the same time I get the feeling like nothing was happening. Everything feels repetitive with some moments here and there that may call my attention.
Write in first person is one of the easiest way to write this days and lately the favorite of all the new rising authors. Which it make me think over and over EVERYONE can write this days! Or is it this the only way for authors to call the attention for people to read their books since people have become lazy? I do prefer to say both ways!
I honestly was surprise to see this book has set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time, surpassing the Harry Potter series. WOW!!
Going down with Fifty Shades:
I read constantly critic about the horror of this books and their BDSM, but I still don’t get what is the big fuss about it? We clearly see so little about it in the book the whole famous contract that Christian Grey aka “Greek God” offer to her was never sing and everything Anastasia Steele do as a BDSM was not even a 20% BDSM can be …or so I think? I do know but for me most of the sexual situations that are describe in the book I see it as just as Ana describe like a “kinky fuckery”. People constantly protest about the bad example this book give to all those young girls, but know that I read about it and while I talk with a friend about the book so far, I said “I do have to admit I have read so much worst about BDSM in fanfics.” If a teenager have been reading this book,Parents I should say this thing only one time “be sure your son or daughter is reading worst things on the internet!”
Come on we all …well those who had experience with “sex” have done something well kinky from time to time. And excuse me!! I just want to ask E.L.James where the fuck I can find a clone of Mr. Grey? I think we all who had read the book must agreed, we all want a man who can keep up with that kind of ….err … exercise ?
For me the entire first book was so funny, but deep inside I knew it was suppose to be an erotic novel, but I find myself laughing so hard, the fan fic words where everywhere the style as things where describe, the typical bad boy attitude rich handsome man aka “Greek God” , the typical awkward middle class young woman who falls madly in love for no reason , the redundancy of words, the short developing time on things and etc. All of that scream fan fiction. I was so shock how things develop in this book it was too fast and find it boring when I notice 80% of the situations in the book was all about Ana and Christian having sex all the fucking time!
If this was suppose to be the interesting part of the book I think E.L. James fail to show me that excitement! I mean I get it! is ok it was an erotic novel but I feel like the story was a little bit poor there wasn’t a balance at all. Every part when they have sex all I can think about it was “here comes the bunnies!” Room : SEX, Bathroom: SEX, Elevator: SEX, Piano : SEX, Car: SEX, Every single moment and place they could find : BAM! SEX!!
There wasn’t a Build up for things. They just happen! When I finish the first book I must said that end was really good and it was the reason why I decide to continue reading the whole trilogy.
When I start to read the second book I said “whoo nice!” this book is gonna be from the POV of Christian Grey, but no, no back to the POV of sad Ana. But I was like is ok, is fine. But no thing goes like a starch record when I read only days had pass since she decide not to sing the contract and abandon Christian because all this shit about BDSM was too much for her. Was it to much? In my mind this character make me think “you are such a liar!” It was so confusing and gets me angry while I read that they didn’t actual finish to discuss stuff and everything was resolve with hot sex… like seriously who the fuck resolve their couple problems with sex ? Can we resolve any problem with sex ? …. lol I don’t think so.
I do admit the whole past of Christian Grey was something that call my attention in the books, not because he was that amazing “Sex God”, but because of his sad past. I’m sucker for angst writings. And I could not forget about Sex every where also in this book, at this point of reading the second book I wasn’t laughing so much and I was like “come on can this redundancy can go any faster?” The end leave you hanging and thinking now things are gonna get ugly ! Ugly good!
Nah! By the third book I was just offended because I feel like E.L.James have lie again, same thing same “problems” and when you though things are going to get really exited …no nada ! Sex here and there and EVERYWEHRE !! Same old problems, they were married, I must say they could have end the saga on the second book after that propose at the birthday party, but no they have to add the “danger factor” which for me wasn’t develop at all they make you believed, but no the “danger factor” was cut off very quickly. The end was really fluffy and predictable. What it caught my attention about this thrid book was at the very end when the authors give you a glimpse of how the book could have been from Christian POV, that was really really interesting and make think “this book was suppose to be about Fifty Shades of Grey, by heaven sakes why she didn’t think of this before? Why write everything from the POV of Ana? then things should have make a little bit of more sense and would have maybe more interesting from the star.”
Twilight’s Similarity:
I haven’t had the chance to be able to read the “original fan fiction” which name is “Master of my universe” but in the all three books we can clearly appreciated the constant reference to the title, the characters personalities, the places where the drama develop, the sort off same situations. We clearly see many times she talks about twilight, etc…. I was so disappointed when Ana got pregnant, there it was clearly for me SO Twilight! But by the third book you are so numb about all you clearly don’t care is like “meh!” and you keep going on reading.
Things that could have been:
I might not have the talent of writing but I do believed to have the talent to help others people to get ideas and better results of their writings. I like to give advice!
After reading the small Christian Grey POV of the first chapter of Fifty Shades of Grey, I came to think about this whole drama now and it made me wonder and be a little bit disappointed – Why this book couldn’t have been written from his POV ? The books would have been more appealing to the readers and honestly all would have match with the titles of the book .
I think we are getting tired of listening to the POV of a confusing young girl who doesn’t know what she want and are constantly nagging to the main male character.
I would have love to see what Christian really think about himself about how this experience with this girl was affecting him, we are clear she was perfect for him for the following reason ; she was virgin and all the sexual experience she had was only with him, which it was fit perfectly by his obsession of posses something and have completely control, it was clear he wanted something that belong to him only him.
Also it will have been refreshing to see something to develop less faster little by little and it would have been nice to see real reaction about this whole BDSM contract.
Believed me I will have been in shock if a “Greek God” had offer me something like that and I would have walk away and avoid him…. and then I remember I kind off did happen once … not contract involve at all, but I meet a long time ago a very good looking guy and we talk a lot, we had a friend in common and that’s how we meet online and talk trough video chat and he well… err.. like to inflict pain he cut himself and etc…blah blah blah! I knew a little bit because of my friend but didn’t care much since he was really nice, but one time he confess to my best friend, he was a little bit obsess with me and he wanted to do really hard core kinky fuckery using candle wax and shit… I feel a little bad about him now that I remember him… We have agreed to meet a few days before I knew about all his obsession about me, I get scared and never show in our point of encounter and stop talking with him, he constantly ask my friend what happen. She try to explain in a polite way but he was clearly hurt by me never knew what happen to him ever since… I do have to admit, it do cross my mind to try it so in a sort way I understand why Ana stay and try even when she was feeling scared. But we never clearly see what was going on Christian head. I wish to see more of realism into the novels… I think E.L. James fail to bring that element into her novels.
Funny Words through the books:
I find myself laughing from time to time with funny words like ; Greek God, every time she say “OH MY!”, Kinky fuckery , every single time she say his name over and over“Christian Grey!”.
My feelings about this whole book saga:
From 1 to 10… I think I will give to this novel 5 it was surely a really interesting experience I have never read a book who doesn’t call my attention. We have to give some credit to E.L. James she was really lucky to get publish and this fact should inspire anyone who are considering a writing career if she made it with this book which it was a FUCKING fan fiction! ANYONE can make it! You have to be patient and knock on doors until luck hit you!
I do hope people understand this book is not the evil incarnation as every body see it! It’s clear everyone is making a drama out of all this, let’s face it the book sell and it have to be for a reason, people like it or people are curious about it! I was curious!
Reading this book shouldn’t make a statement of what kind of person you are or what kind of bad influence things can be, this book will not change the way of your sex life is, BDSM is not = abuse, as long is a mutual consent between two people or three or four who the fuck knows? BDSM is NOT fiscal abuse if you enjoy it and like it. It was clear she make a statement in her books BDSM is a life style and we need to respect that if we are open mind. We also see it was clear mild sexual play games in which I think some time “normal” people have try and do…
As for the movie … I feel sorry for all the fans waiting to see this movie happen. I think every actor who have been offer to play the role of Christian Grey have been scared to accept this role well for obvious reason, the fans and the bad publicity people and the media have giving to this book. No rising actor want to get burn by this movie this can be either a huge hit or the worst shit ever made. There is not much drama in the books to work a decent script, unless someone write a hell of a script which call the attentions to be a really good project and to give a shot !
Also if they based the whole movie in the book we will be watching a porno and I don’t think someone want to invest so much money on a porno. They have to work hard, really hard to make a well made script about this whole trilogy, I don’t think this whole saga can handle the big screen is too much and too little at the same time maybe if they resume the tree books in one or maybe two movies it will make sense. But I still don’t think it will be able to make it any time soon… Also they have to face the fact no important rising actor want to put their hand on the fire with this project why insist on looking for those actor and focus of someone who is not in that delicate spot of their career. Someone new I bet there have to be someone really interested in make this movie and take the blows from people, and media anything for them will be good I guess. But actors who already build up a little bit of fame and are arriving to the top will not be a good idea.
Maybe the should rethink about this whole idea try to sell it to HBO or Showtime and make a series about it and let others writers fix it….

I do will like to people to stop talking shit about what they don’t know and get down with all this bullshit and read it, they can be actually able to speak about it! You don’t have to love it!
Let’s admit it ! I’m jealous of E.L.James she actually make a good money out of this … book if she can do it Anyone can do it! I know it might not seems fair to others authors who probably have a better book to tell and sell and work their asses to get publish. But if you are on that boat hang in there and keep knocking on doors.
Again I do hope people understand this book is not the satanic bible.
An last but not least never underestimated the power of fan fiction community.
